Guyana

We have a dedicated team of professionals ready to support all your business needs—so you can focus confidently on expanding in Guyana.

WHY GUYANA?

  • Guyana is experiencing one of the fastest economic growth rates globally, driven by major offshore oil discoveries since 2015, with GDP growing over 30% annually and expected to remain strong through 2025–2026.
  • Located on the northern coast of South America, it serves as a bridge between Caribbean and South American markets, offering access to CARICOM, global markets, and ease of business via English and a British-based legal system.
  • Rich in natural resources including oil, gold, bauxite, timber, and fertile land for agriculture – Guyana offers multi-sector opportunities and a youthful, English-speaking workforce.

ADVANTAGES

Resource-driven transformation:

Oil production (650,000 barrels/day in 2024, projected to reach 1 million by 2027), with substantial infrastructure development and downstream investment.

Government incentives:

Investment incentives include tax holidays, customs duty relief, VAT exemptions, accelerated depreciation, loss carryover, and full repatriation of capital and profits.

Sector-specific support:

Sectors like agro-processing, ICT, tourism, manufacturing, and mining enjoy tailored incentives and export allowances.

Diversification and sustainability:

Investments in eco-tourism, carbon credit initiatives, green energy, and a sovereign wealth fund (Natural Resources Fund) show Guyana's commitment to balanced, sustainable growth.

SIMPLE TAX REGIME

Central tax administration:

The Guyana Revenue Authority oversees corporate income, personal income, VAT, and other major taxes; local authorities handle property tax.

Attractive tax structure with incentives

Corporate tax rates are set at 25% (non‑commercial) and 40% (commercial), with tax holidays of up to 10 years available for priority sectors.

VAT regime

Standard VAT rate is 14%, with exemptions for basics, education, healthcare, and zero-rating for exports.

Progressive Personal Income Tax (PIT)

Income tax is 28% up to GYD 780,000 and 40% above that; a proposal in early 2025 aims to reduce the lower rate to 25% and raise the threshold.

Withholding taxes

Dividends are taxed at 10%; interest and royalties at 20%; DTAs may reduce these rates.

Additional taxes:

Capital gains (short‑term assets: 20%; longer‑term: 25% for individuals, 40% for companies), local property taxes, excise duties, and social security contributions apply as per law.

TAX SLABS – INCOME & CORPORATE TAX RATES

INCOME TAX RATES (PIT)

  • Up to GYD 780,000: 28%
  • Above GYD 780,000: 40% (proposal to reduce to 25% for lower bracket in progress).

CORPORATE TAX RATES

  • Non-commercial companies: 25%
  • Commercial companies (e.g., trading, telecoms, banking, insurance): 40%; minimum corporate tax of 2% turnover also applies, with the greater of the two enforced.
