Namibia

We have a team of professionals to help you with all your business needs, so that you can focus on business expansion in Namibia — one of Africa’s most resource-rich and investment-friendly economies.

WHY NAMIBIA?

•Gateway to Southern Africa: Strategically located with modern ports (Walvis Bay, Lüderitz), Namibia connects international investors to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and its market of over 350 million people.

•Stable Political Climate: Namibia is recognized as one of the most politically stable democracies in Africa, offering predictable policies and legal certainty.

•Resource Powerhouse: Leading producer of diamonds, uranium, copper, zinc, and rare earths, alongside emerging opportunities in oil, gas, and green hydrogen.

•Infrastructure Readiness: Advanced road, rail, and port networks; reliable ICT; and renewable energy projects position Namibia as a logistics and energy hub.

•Tourism Magnet: Namibia’s desert landscapes, wildlife, and eco-tourism attractions attract global investors in hospitality and conservation projects.

ADVANTAGES

Tax Incentives in Export Processing Zones (EPZs):

Full exemption from corporate tax, VAT, customs, and transfer duties for EPZ-based enterprises.

Double Tax Treaties (DTTs):

Namibia has signed treaties with countries including South Africa, Germany, and others to avoid double taxation and attract foreign capital.

Access to Skilled Workforce

High literacy rate (over 90%) with English as the official language, making Namibia investor-friendly.

Renewable Energy Frontier

Government-backed initiatives in solar, wind, and green hydrogen with potential to supply both domestic and export markets.

Regional Trade Benefits

Duty-free access to SADC and preferential access to the EU under the Economic Partnership Agreement.

SIMPLE TAX REGIME

Corporate tax

Namibia maintains a relatively simple taxation framework with clear corporate and personal tax structures. Foreign investors benefit from predictable rules, tax treaties, and generous investment allowances

TAX SLABS

INCOME TAX RATES (Personal)

Namibia applies a progressive system:

  • Up to NAD 100,000 → 0%
  • NAD 100,001 – 300,000 → 18%
  • NAD 300,001 – 500,000 → 25%
  • NAD 500,001 – 800,000 → 28%
  • NAD 800,001 – 1,500,000 → 30%
  • Above NAD 1,500,000 → 37%

Insight: The system favors middle-income earners while ensuring higher contributions from top-income brackets.

UNIFIED INCOME TAX ENVIRONMENT

  • No capital gains tax on individuals.
  • Fringe benefits and allowances are taxed as part of employment income.

Foreign workers are subject to the same regime as residents

CORPORATE TAX RATES

  • General corporate tax: 32%
  • Manufacturing companies: Incentivized rate of 18% (if approved by the Ministry of Finance).
  • Export Processing Zone (EPZ) enterprises: 0% tax holiday on all direct taxes.
  • Non-resident shareholders’ tax on dividends: 10% (reduced under treaties).
  • Royalties and interest: Subject to withholding tax, generally between 10%–15%.

Insight: Namibia uses targeted tax incentives (manufacturing, EPZs, renewables) to balance revenue needs with attracting FDI.

NAMIBIA COMPANIES

  • Legal Framework: Based on Roman-Dutch law with strong constitutional protection for property rights and investment.
  • Company Structures:
    • Private Company (Pty Ltd) – most common for investors.
    • Public Company (Ltd) – for large enterprises and listings.
    • Branches of foreign companies allowed.
  • Ownership: 100% foreign ownership permitted in most sectors, though certain industries (land ownership, mining, energy) may require local partnerships or licenses.
  • Registration: Conducted through the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA), streamlined and increasingly digitized.
  • Banking & Finance: Modern banking sector, access to international financing, and integration with South Africa’s financial system.

NSIGHTFUL TAKEAWAYS

  • Namibia offers a blend of natural resources, infrastructure readiness, and political stability unmatched by many African peers.
  • The EPZ framework and manufacturing tax incentives provide world-class benefits for investors looking to serve regional and global markets.
  • Growing opportunities lie in green hydrogen, oil & gas exploration, logistics, and eco-tourism, backed by international partnerships.
  • While the corporate tax rate (32%) is relatively high, targeted exemptions make Namibia competitive when structured correctly.
  • Strategic investors benefit not just from the domestic market (2.5 million people), but from regional integration with SADC and SACU.
